Adobe Photoshop Touch updated and optimized for 7-inch devices

Android Central

Following the launch of Adobe Photoshop Touch a couple of weeks ago for the Amazon Kindle Fire, the app has been updated today in the Play Store with optimization for 7-inch devices. The one caveat is that the screen resolution must be at least 1024x600, but that puts the Google Nexus 7 right on deck.

Besides this there's a smattering of other new features included, one of which is new ways to share your creations to Facebook and Twitter. Additionally to this there's some new effects, and enhancements to both performance and the visual side with an improved grid layout. The update is now live in the Google Play Store for current owners, and if you're picking it up for the first time it'll cost you $9.99/£6.99.

Has Lenovo's IdeaTab Lynx just been spotted on the FCC's holodeck?

Lenovo Windows 8 tablet spotted on the FCCs holodeck

As you can see from the picture, somewhere, deep within the FCC's subterranean Washington bunker is a Holodeck. Down there, brave scientists seem to be examining a Lenovo-branded Windows tablet that shares some stylings with the company's Transformer-esque IdeaTab Lynx. Given that the holiday season is nearly upon us, and FCC certification is normally a sign of impending availability, perhaps we won't have long to wait before we learn the truth.

Millennial: Apple Still Leads Samsung In Overall Impressions, But Android Dominates iOS With 52% Share

DeviceMix-Q3-2012Leading mobile ad network Millennial Media today released ist Q3 Mobile Mix report, and it would appear that Apple has kept its lead as top manufacturer on the platform, with the top device being the iPhone. However, Apple didn't see a drastic spike in mobile ad impressions with the release of the iPhone 5, as was expected. Apple accounted for 31.45 percent of overall device impressions, up from 31.38% in Q2, and the iPhone the number one device on the platform with 16.04 percent of impressions, up from 15.84 last quarter.

Slope may very well be the only stand you need for your iPad, or any other tablet you own

Slope is a new Kickstarter project that aims to be not only multifunctional but is designed in a way that makes you wonder why Apple themselves didn't design something similar. The best part is, it doesn't only work with the iPad, but any tablet you have laying around.

The unique thing about Slope is that it doesn't depend on traditional brackets, levers, or magnets to hold the device in place. Instead it uses suction by way of thousands of tiny suction cups that create air pockets. This is why Slope should work with almost any device or tablet you've got laying around.

Suction is the thing that drives its function. Slope has two nanofoam pads affixed to its aluminum base, one gripping the backside of the tablet, the other gripping the surface of the desk underneath. These pads are comprised of a special make of foam that, as you can see from the video, are extremely effective.

The creators of Slope need $60,000 before December 20th to get the project funded and as of writing this, they've currently managed just above $43,000. If you choose to help fund Slope there are quite a few options they're offering backers. The minimum pledge amount is only $1 while the max is $134. There are several in betweens that'll get you different items for helping Slope reach its goal. For $69 you'll get a full size Dekke Slope large enough for 10" tablets, which means your iPad, if the project is funded. It's not a bad deal and in my opinion, it's a much more elegant solution than stands and docks that are currently on the market for iPad.

Hit the link below to check out more photos, info, and to back the project on Kickstarter.

Beyond Ynth for iPhone and iPad review

Beyond Ynth for iPhone and iPad review

Beyond Ynth for iPhone and iPad is a cute little platformer game with great graphics that is unique, fun, and challenging. It's about a little bug named Kribl who's on a big journey to bring light back to the Kingdom of Kriblonia. In order to do so, you must move, turn, and traverse labrynth boxes which help you reach the end of each level.

The controls for Beyond Ynth are very basic and simply include 4 buttons, two on each side of the screen. The bottom buttons move Kribl left and right and the top buttons make Kribl jump left or right. Beyond Ynth includes interactive tutorials that teaches you all the tips and tricks to having a successful journey including slamming down Ynths, climbing, moving objects and more.

Beyond Ynth includes 80 levels that are displayed on a map. You start out in the forest and as you complete levels, new ones become available. All the levels have amazing graphics that compel me to choose my Retina iPad over my iPad mini even though I typically prefer to play games on my iPad mini.

During your journey with Kribl, you will encounter a wide variety of habitats including dusty deserts, volcanic valleys, dark forests, and icy mountain peaks. Each habitat has its own special trait and thus it's own tutorial. For example, in icy levels, you may encounter slippery sections of your blocks and Kribl will only survive outside of a Ynth for a few seconds at a time.

The good

  • Fun, addicting, and challenging
  • 80 levels
  • Storybook with hand-drawn illustrations
  • Realistic physics gameplay elements
  • Original music and songs, recorded in a studio
  • Super-smooth dimensional scrolling
  • High-score lists and achievements
  • Helpful rewind feature
  • Solution videos
  • 15 hours of gameplay

The bad

  • Addicting enough to kill a significant amount of productivity. Wait, is that really a con?

The conclusion

Beyond Ynth is a fantastic casual platformer puzzle game that will easily have you hooked after just a few minutes. Each level is unique in its own way and look amazing on Retina screens. This is another one of those games that I can't believe I'm only discovering now, because it really is quite awesome.

This is the Modem World: Fear and loathing in the local bike shop

DNP This is the Modem World Fear and loathing in the local bike shop

By now, Cyber Monday is probably as big as Black Friday in terms of sales and retail excitement. According to IBM's Smarter Commerce arm, Cyber Monday online sales jumped 30 percent this year. A few years ago, Cyber Monday seemed to start as a joke, e-tailers heaving a "me too" at everyone returning to work, hoping to pick up a couple extra sales from those who didn't score on Black Friday.

This was, of course, when brick-and-mortar shops still outsold their online brethren. Blockbuster Video still occupied mini-malls; Barnes & Noble sold CDs and didn't know a thing about tablets. There was a quiet respect for brick-and-mortar stores in the quaint nature of Cyber Monday: 20 percent off underwear and free shipping, but that was about it.

Jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 on OS X or Windows with PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze

iOS 4.3.1 jailbreakA jailbreak of iOS 4.3.1 is now possible with both PwnageTool on Mac, and Sn0wbreeze on Windows. RedmondPie -- who else? -- has some handy guides that you can follow for all iOS 4.3.1 devices on Windows, for iPhone 4 on OS X, iPad 1 on OS X, iPhone 3GS on OS X, and iPod touch 4G and 3G on OS X.

All iOS 4.3.1 jailbreaks are still tethered, meaning you'll have to jailbreak your device after every reboot. An untethered jailbreak is slated for release sometime in the next week -- but 4.3 was meant to have an untether, too, and that never emerged.

Maybe Apple's updated security mechanisms will finally keep hackers at bay!
