Pastebin updated to V3, releases Windows app

pastebin
Pastebin is a very popular website aimed at coders and other nerdy types, which allows them (or should I say, us) to paste and share snippets of code with lovely syntax highlighting.

It has recently undergone a major overhaul which includes the release of a brand new Windows client. The new client lets you create new "pastes" and manage your existing ones. It joins a host of other tools from Pastebin, such as the Google and Chrome extensions, OS X widget and the mobile apps.

If you're currently using Pastebin, the new client is a great addition. And if you haven't tried it before, next time you have a piece of code you want to share or get some feedback on, you could do worse than try out Pastebin.

[Thanks, Jeroen!]

Biscotti TV phone connects to the cloud, adds home security functionality

MyBiscotti

As a video conferencing solution, Biscotti's TV phone scores high marks for form, function and charm. But apart from the cutesy name and appealing build, it's more or less a $199 one trick pony -- or it was, anyway. Which is why the company's now tethering the peripheral to the internet-at-large and bolstering its functionality with the newly announced MyBiscotti Cloud Services. The version 2.0 software (available via an OTA update) pushes beyond simple two-way TV video chat with the addition of home monitoring features like the self-explanatory Time Lapse mode, as well as Live Image viewing, which culls streams from all networked Biscotti cams. Further, users that find themselves away from the roost will also be able to swap out settings on the fly simply by visiting the outfit's dedicated site. As of now, there's no extra cost for the expanded suite of services, but you will have to plunk down for the coffee biscuit-shaped peripheral. Official PR after the break.

Sprint expands LTE coverage to 11 more cites

Sprint expands LTE coverage to 11 more cites

Sprint has expanded its LTE network to 11 more cities today. The third-place US carrier will be expanding into smaller cities in seven states, including Virginia, Indiana, and Massachusetts. This is part of a larger rollout by Sprint to increase LTE coverage as well as improve the quality of their 3G network. The following areas gained LTE today, with Sprint planning to expand their coverage in the following months:

  • Anderson, Ind.
  • Clarke County, Va./Jefferson County, W.Va.
  • Harrisburg/Carlisle/Hershey, Pa.
  • Hagerstown, Md./Martinsburg, W.Va.
  • Harrisonburg, Va.
  • Muncie, Ind.
  • Peabody, Mass.
  • Salina, Kan.
  • Shenandoah County, Va.
  • South Bend/Mishawaka, Ind.
  • Winchester, Va.

So far, Sprint has been behind AT&T and Verizon in rolling out LTE. Japanese carrier Softbank?s purchase of a large stake in Sprint may allow them some breathing room as they attempt to remain competitive. The rollout of LTE is now critical for any carrier, and the expansion of high-speed networks outside of larger metropolitan areas is important. Sprint needs to expand their LTE coverage as quickly as possible, especially now that most new smartphones, including the iPhone 5, have LTE. Customers being unable to access one of their device?s main features tends to be the sort of thing that turns them into former customers, so Sprint needs to act as fast as they can to keep their users happy. Sprint plans for their LTE expansion to be complete by the end of 2013.

HTML5 MP3 player lets you listen to your music library inside your browser

html5 browser mp3 audio player
While this slick little HTML5 audio player might not pack all of the features of your favorite desktop media application, it's still a very cool demonstration of what a Web app can do with access to local resources -- like MP3 and OGG files.

Just fire up http://antimatter15.github.com/player/player.html in your HTML5-compatible browser and browse to the topmost folder in your music library. The app will quickly build an index of all your tunes and let you start listening right inside your Web browser. Click on the filter library text, and you can enter a search string -- results load as you type.

There's a volume control, shuffle mode, play/pause control, and you can click and drag to skip forward or rewind during playback. As OMG! Ubuntu points out, you can even save the app to your hard drive and run it offline, which is pretty darn cool.

Not all browsers are equal when it comes to HTML5 implementation, of course. We found that Chrome worked the best, and Firefox was OK. It's also worth noting that this music player comes from the same developer that created one of our favorite restartless Firefox 4 add-ons, drag2up.
