Watch This Robot Dance Gangnam Style

Though this CHARLI-2 Robot doesn't do the sexy legs of PSY quite as well, it can pretty much do every other move of PSY's hit Gangnam Style. The horse riding, the little lasso twirl, the crowd pumping, it's hilarious. Watch it. More »

Tasty Planet is a fun flash game where you eat everything in sight

tastyplanet
So this professor comes up with a new toilet cleaner that works by "eating" the dirt; or so he thinks. That's how the plot starts for Tasty Planet. You play the role of the toilet cleaner, but you're not really a toilet cleaner after all -- you're a blob of gray goo that can eat anything that's smaller than yourself.

As you chomp away, you grow -- and as you grow, you can eat bigger and bigger stuff. The first level pits you against microscopic particles; by the time I stopped playing, I got all the way to eating cats and dogs. I know that sounds disturbing, but it's a really cute game, and there's no gore or anything like that.

Supposedly you keep growing and growing until you're able to eat whole planets (hence the name). The challenge factor comes when you realize you can't touch any critter larger than yourself - you'll get "bitten" and become smaller. In the beginning you're so small, that a single touch can kill you. Later on, you're big enough that touching larger animals doesn't kill you on the spot, but it does reduce your size. Each level is timed, so if you're not large enough by the time your clock runs out, you need to start again. As long as you don't touch the larger animals, you should be fine.

All in all, a fun, addictive little game. It's available for iOS, too.

Google Latitude check-in deals now available across the US

Recently, Google has been busy beefing up Latitude to make it more competitive with other location apps -- and more fun to use. Location history was added recently, iOS users can post check-ins via Latitude, and now Google has begun rolling out location-based deals which are tied to the service.

If you're in the U.S., you can now score local savings at participating merchants by checking in with Latitude. Google will also be offering "status deals," which users can unlock by visiting a particular merchant on a regular basis. Mashable notes three status levels: regular, VIP, and guru -- though partners can apparently customize those titles if they choose.

Right now deals are available from merchants like American Eagle Outfitters, Arby's, Finish Line, Macy's, Quiznos, and RadioShack.

New iPad Battery Life

The new iPad has the same battery life as the iPad 2. This may strike some as peculiar because the iPad 3 has a new more highly-powered battery. However, although the battery does carry more juice, this is offset by the new features of the iPad 3 which require more power, for example the high-definition Retina display and the 4G connectivity. That said, the new iPad battery life is still perfectly reasonable and is suitable both for casual at-home use [...]

Dissecting The Sony Nexus X, The Fake That Launched A Thousand Stories

nexusx1So hey, remember that Sony Nexus X image that made the rounds earlier this week? The one that more than a few commentors called a hoax after I ran a story about it? Well, the skeptics among you were right -- creator of the faux-Nexus came forward not long ago with a tell-all Tumblr spelling out what he did and (more importantly) how he did it.

Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro available on AT&T October 21st for $100

Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro available on AT&T October 21st for $100

Fans of rugged Android phones, rejoice: you only have to wait until this Sunday to get the Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro on AT&T. The carrier just announced that it'll be making its way into stores on October 21st and will run you a whole $100 on a two-year commitment. It isn't going to be the stellar top-end device many power users crave, as it features a 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display, 5MP rear-facing camera with 720p video recording, 8GB onboard storage, ICS, LTE, Enhanced Push-to-Talk, 810g military-spec certification and EAS corporate email support. It's a definite upgrade from the Smart, no doubt, but we're still pining for the day that rugged phones can have the best components and bounce off a concrete floor without incident.

Magnetie ? Reversible magnetic neck tie for the sharp dressed man

I’m not a man and don’t wear neck ties, so I don’t know how much suffering has been going on out there as far as ties that flap in the wind or hang haphazardly on your chest. I’m sure it’s a tragic condition and for that fact I’m going to offer you the Magnetie solution. [...]

Field Trip gets some useful changes and polish

Field Trip

Google's latest location-centric app, Field Trip, just received an update that has added quite a bit of polish and some usability features. As far as new features go, version 1.03 adds the ability to swipe away cards to dismiss notifications, view card locations on the map all the way at the city level, mute notifications while using Google Navigation and choose walking or driving directions when navigating via the Field Trip app.

On the bug fix side, this latest version fixes issues with the screen staying on too long because of a notification, crashes on specific devices, text to speech and issues with the app not respecting the device's silent mode.

That's a pretty big changelog for an early update on a new app, and all of them are much appreciated. If you haven't had a chance to download and take a look at Field Trip, it's really worth your time. Sure you'll look like a tourist walking around with your phone in front of you going "ooh, ahh", but that's part of the fun.

Fujitsu's Windows 8 range for Japan includes eyeball-controlled Esprimo FH98/JD all-in-one

Fujitsu's Windows 8 range for Japan includes eyeballcontrolled Esprimo FH98JD allinone

In addition to its gender-obsessed Floral Kiss range, Fujitsu has announced a gabble of Windows 8 form factors for its Japanese clientele. One of the more curious additions is the Esprimo FH98/JD all-in-one PC, which lets you pan across Microsoft's new UI using the very same eye-tracking technology we played with at CEATEC. There's also a slightly refreshed version of the 14-inch FMV Lifebook UH75 last seen running Windows 7 at CeBIT, which persists in its claim to be the "world's thinnest Ultrabook" at 15.6mm. Two more Lifebooks make similar promises in their respective non-Ultrabook weight categories -- the 13.3-inch SH76/J and the 15.6-inch AH78/JA, which both stretch to around 20mm at their thickest points. At the back of the convoy comes the 10-inch waterproof Arrows Tab Wi-Fi, which was already draped in Windows 8 colors when we went hands-on a few weeks back. It's mostly academic unless you'll be in Japan after October 26th, but the source link has plenty more pics and specs.
