How To Stop Spoilers from Ruining TV for Everybody [User Manual]

In the previous century, when everyone watched TV shows at the exact same time, we didn't have to worry about ruining suspenseful plots. You either saw it or didn't. But thanks to technology, we live in a dangerous time. Equally devoted fans of a show might be live-watchers—always up to the latest episode—or they might be time-shifters, perpetually a few days behind the broadcasts. More »

Personal Activity Monitor tracks time you spend using desktop apps

personalactivitymonitor
Up until a couple of years ago, I used to turn to RescueTime to figure out how I spend my time online. Then it got too complex, and I stopped using it. Personal Activity Monitor is like a vastly dumbed-down version of RescueTime, and I mean that as a compliment. It's free and bare-bones -- all it does is track what applications you're using and for how long.

A big drawback at this point is that it doesn't integrate with Web browsers to help you analyze how you spend your time on the Web. Still, if your work doesn't require constant Web app use, knowing how long you've used a browser overall might be enough to help you manage your time.

This is far from the only application in this space -- alternatives such as Slife and Chrometa are full-featured and impressive -- but PAM is good option for those who want a nice, simple tracker.

Tim Cook apologizes for Maps mess

Tim Cook apologizes for Maps mess

Well, it's hardly a secret that customers are unhappy with Apple's new mapping solution in iOS 6. And, while the company has admitted that, perhaps, it's not quite up to snuff yet, it has played down Maps' flaws and urged customers to be patient. Today, in an open letter to the Apple faithful, Tim Cook struck a far more candid and conciliatory tone, apologizing for failing to deliver a "world-class" product. Cook went so far as to suggest that unhappy customers could check out offerings from competitors like Bing, MapQuest, Google and Nokia -- at least until Cupertino sorts this mess out. You'll find the complete text of the letter after the break.

Update: As CNET reports, Apple has now also gone one step further and added a new list of featured mapping alternatives to the App Store, including apps from TeleNav, Garmin, Magellan and others.

You can read our editorial on Apple apologies since the launch of the iPhone here.

Motorola RAZR i to begin shipping in the UK from October 1.

Android Central

Right from launch day we'd heard early October would be the release timeframe for Motorola's new RAZR i. Now, at least one British retailer has narrowed that down further, and confirmed the device will begin shipping on October 1.

Clove Technology are set to receive stocks of the device imminently, and have taken to their official blog to confirm that they will be shipping the new Intel powered RAZR i this coming Monday. At £342 we still feel it's a little on the pricey side, but there is a lot to like. It sets the ball rolling in the Motorola/Intel partnership and we're excited to see where things go from here.

If you're interested in purchasing a RAZR i, be sure to check out our full review first, before parting with your hard earned.

Apple?s iBook App is Brilliant

By far one of the best features of Apple’s iPad is it’s ability to access thousands of apps. It does have a great multi-orientation interface too but the fact that these apps have been designed for the iPad only means there is very little chance of finding them on any other device other than the iPhone and iPod Touch.   The applications cover a wide range of categories from entertainment to business with games, education and sports in between. Elephant Quest is an addictive, deep platformer

elephantquest
When someone tells me about a "platformer", my first thought is that it's probably a simple game that mainly revolves around running and jumping around, with a minimal plot. [Play a Zelda game! -Ed]

Elephant Quest is one platformer that managed to prove me completely wrong. Yes, you do run and jump around, and you also shoot at stuff. But the game has much, much more going for it.

Basically, as you run, jump and shoot, you gain experience points and level up. Hitting Space brings you into an interface where you can convert your experience points into Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Dexterity points. Once you've "specialized" your points, you then get to pick what exact skills you'd like to enhance in each field. For example, you could use your dexterity to enhance your weapons or increase your swiftness.

The game is played in a huge maze; you go through rooms using doors, and there's a large map. As the name implies, there are quests you can take, too. For example, one quest had me searching all over the place for ten balloons.

The bottom line is that this is a surprisingly deep game that just might ensnare you for a good bit longer than you intended to play. Beware!

iPhone 5 ?Problems? Explained

With Apple's most recent iPhone launch, it seems that a wide range of possible "problems" are affecting users -- but are people just nitpicking because it's, well, Apple? Some are complete non-issues, while others are in fact legitimate problems to be concerned with.
