Chasing Shazam, SoundHound Quietly Passes 100M Users, Averaging 200K Downloads/Day

SoundhoundWith Shazam infiltrating our TVs, showing up in Super Bowl ads, and passing 200 million users, you just might think that the market has its music-identification king. But SoundHound would beg to differ. Just three days after Shazam's announcement, the music search and discovery app has responded by quietly releasing some numbers of its own. No official announcement, no hubbub, just a press release. Today, SoundHound announced that it has passed the 100 million users milestone -- and this, according to Vice President of SoundHound Katie McMahon, tallies the number of people who have actually used the app, not just those who downloaded it. Oh, and it's averaging over 200,000 downloads per day on Android and iOS devices. The only reasonably conclusion? We have no idea what song we're listening to ... ever.

Apple says it's 'just getting started' on Maps for iOS 6, are you willing to wait

Now that iOS 6 has arrived on Apple tablets and phones, users at large are getting their hands on the company's new Maps app for the first time only to find at least a few things out of place. The lack of navigation for public transportation was a known limitation going in, but misplaced landmarks, geographical oddities and suddenly blank areas where Google Maps had an abundance of tags (all being cataloged by The Amazing iOS 6 Maps Tumblr, as seen above) have some users bristling. A spokesperson for Apple tells All Things D that it expects things to improve as more people use Maps (check out the entire statement after the break), but is that enough? Hit the poll selections below to let us know if the new experience is truly a move in the right direction.

Burrito Bison is a simple game for gummy bear lovers

burritobison
Burrito Bison is a pretty simple game, but if you're into gummy bears you might find it addictive.

As you may have guessed from the name, you're a bison (not a burrito, though). In the course of your day-to-day grocery shopping, you're abducted into a bag of gummy bears, and must now fend for yourself.

At the beginning of each round you launch yourself onto the marching gummy (gummi?) bears, while you're being watched by a huge crowd of even more gummy bears. Your goal is to keep bouncing on the bears and earn more and more money while you do it. Every time you hit a gummy bear, you lose some momentum. If you hit the floor, you basically lose all of it.

But don't give up just yet! You have an emergency thrust which you can use to gain some momentum and keep bouncing on those bears. This extra thrust gets refilled as you hit more bears.

There are also special gummy bears that give you extra thrust or extra money. The money comes in handy at the end of each round, when you can shop for cool stuff to make your bison even more effective against those gummy bears.

It's a fun and colorful game that kept my interest for quite some time, and almost sent me running to the closest store to get some gummy bears!

Some users experiencing "Couldn't sign in" error on their devices

Android CentralUpdate: The error seems to have gone away on our devices here. Let's hope it stays that way.

The above picture may look familiar to many of you tonight if you've been trying to sync with Google servers. Many users are reporting seeing sporadic issues like the one above. You receive a notification about a sign in error with your Google Account, leading to the above screen, where following the "next" button seems to get you nowhere. The error is usually associated to an issue when you change your account password or your application-specific password for Google 2-step verification runs out, but we've ruled that out. This one's random kids.

We sure hope that Google is aware of the issue and is working to fix it. Let us know in the comments if the same is happening on your own devices.
