If you thought Google's perspicacious searching application was clever before, prepare for a shock. Google Goggles version 1.9 adds support for devices without autofocusing optics, giving those on budget gear a chance to use the real world as a search box. Point it at a QR code containing a URL, and it'll show you a thumbnail of the page and check its credentials against its blacklist of malicious sites. If it comes up short when searching for a product, it'll even search for similar-looking items to help you find what you're looking for, and it's available from the Play store for free -- so you don't really have any excuse.

If you watched Samsung's unveiling of the Galaxy S III (Galaxy S3) at Earl's Court, London back in May, you'll know that the manufacturer made quite a bit of fuss about its new nature-inspired design language. And today, Samsung has created a short video presentation showing how its design team went about incorporating this "inspired by nature" theme into its latest flagship smartphone. In bringing its latest flagship to life, Sammy says it drew inspiration from the gentle, curved lines found in the natural world.
In the five-minute video, Samsung designers and execs explain -- in broad terms, and with a fair amount of flowery language --how the S3 differs from other Samsung smartphones. One designer remarks that the overall shape of the phone was inspired by pebbles on the beach, while the company's VP of mobile design says it wanted a more emotional connection between phone and user.
Elsewhere in the video, we get down to the technical details involved in creating a curved design without subtle imperfections, as well as the challenges involved in bringing the S3's software to life.
We know not everyone around these parts is a huge fan of the Galaxy S3's physical design, or some of the design decisions it's made in the TouchWiz Nature UX, but whatever your opinion of the phone, this video is worth a look. It's a chance to take a peek behind the scenes, and understand how the S3 came to become the phone we're now familiar with.
You'll find Samsung's full Galaxy S3 design story video embedded after the break.

We knew the Sharp AQUOS SH-10D was due to hit NTT DoCoMo at some point this summer, and now we've got the full details. You can reserve yours through the carrier from tomorrow, and the proper launch will take place the following week on August 30th. The device will be available in the three colors you see above, and as it recently passed through the FCC, a trip to the US could also be in the cards. But unfortunately, that orange wallpaper is all too harsh a reminder of one that never ventured outside Japan.

Software support and security certificates are coming to an end for Victorinox's line of secure USB drives, but the firm announced on Facebook that it's offering customers full refunds until December 31 if they'd like to return their products in light of the developments. In order to avoid losing data, owners of the flash drives should perform a backup before the encryption application meets its untimely end on September 15th. However, files stored on non-encrypted areas of the device will remain accessible without further action. The Slim, Secure and Presentation Master storage sticks can still be used as run-of-the-mill thumb drives after the cut-off date, but the Swiss Army Knife maker's application will no longer be able to scramble or unscramble their contents.
