Mozilla Messaging, citing Mozilla's increased focus on Web-borne communications, will be reintegrating with Mozilla Labs. The Messaging subsidiary was formed in 2008 to focus on Thunderbird, but given Mozilla Labs' current focus on identity and contact management, it now makes sense for the groups to be merged. Thunderbird will be unaffected by the change -- some URLs might change, but that's it -- and presumably Messaging's F1 and Raindrop will thrive in the Labs playground. What this means for the end user -- for the hundreds of millions of Firefox users -- is that the next big additions will be communication- and messaging-oriented. Contacts and F1 will be almost certainly be baked into Firefox 5 or 6, both of which will be released this year -- and, who knows, there might be something else even more exciting up Mozilla Labs' sleeve!Mozilla Messaging reintegrates with Labs, unifies focus on Web-based communication originally appeared on Download Squad on Tue, 05 Apr 2011 07:00:00 EST. When we heard about Instagram (and other sites) going down when Amazon Web Services' North Virginia hub was hit by a storm -- not the first time AWS has gone down (April 2011 was another notable outage) we couldn't help but wonder: could it have been avoided? Mike Krieger, one of the founders of Instagram, once presented a great slideshow describing how Instagram was able to scale up so well. "The cleanest solution with the fewest moving parts as possible," has been one of the guiding principles for the photo-sharing app, bought by Facebook in a billion-dollar deal earlier this year. Could that too-simple architecture have played a role here? We've reached out to Twitterverse and beyond to get some thoughts on that. Mercedes' plans for a B-Class E-Cell Plus plug-in hybrid might headed for a change of direction. Take this all with a spoonful of NaCl, but looks like an all-electric powertrain made by none other than Tesla will be installed in the EV. As Autoblog Green notes, an anonymous spokesperson has reportedly claimed that the system switch-up is being made due to economics -- higher rebates and incentives are possible for zero-emission vehicles in the EV's US target market. No technical details were given on the new powertrain, but the original idea was to have a Volt-like 138-horsepower electric powerplant for the B-Class compact, with a 67-horsepower gas engine backing it up. At the very least, a collaboration between the two companies would make sense, since the Stuttgart automaker is effectively a five percent stakeholder in Tesla. So if you've been holding out for an EV with the Merc touch, check the source for the details.

There is a countless number of websites out there on the internet these days and chances are if you're the owner of one who is seriously interested in maintaining it, you're looking at your traffic on a daily basis. One such service for doing so is Google Analytics and for a long time now, Google has ignored putting out an Android app for the service. That ends now though, as Google Analytics is available for download in the Google Play Store. The feature set looks nice though, it does seem to be a little short with this first iteration:
No doubt Google will expand the effort here once they get some feedback but one major gripe right now is the fact you can only use the accounts on your device for access. So if your Google Analytics account is associated to an email you don't use often, you'll need to add it to your device in order to view the information. Overall though, it looks pretty sharp and is certainly useful for pulling stats on the go.
