AT&T Bucks The Chromatic Trend With An Exclusive Red Galaxy S III Coming This Summer

gals3redNearly every U.S. wireless carrier that will stock Samsung's much-anticipated Galaxy S III laid out their intentions this morning, but some were more forthcoming than others. While Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular offered up expected launch windows and prices, AT&T spent the day keeping to themselves. Well, until now that is. The news AT&T released is very similar to everyone else's -- pre-orders will begin on June 6, the 16GB model will cost $199 -- except for one major difference. AT&T will be getting an exclusive red version of the Galaxy S III later this summer. Sadly, no images of the red Galaxy S III have trickled out yet, so you'll have to make do with this quick mock-up.

Instagram bug fixing update live in Google Play, app crashing issues fixed

Android Central

Photo sharing social network Instagram, has pushed out an update to its Android application which is live in the Google Play store now. It doesn't bring anything new to the table, but does promise to fix an issue with user images that was causing the app to crash.

While small, judging by a couple of threads started down in the Android Central forums only this morning, it could be a valuable update. There seemed to be instances of sporadic crashing on the Galaxy S III, HTC One X and HTC Evo 4G LTE in particular.  Hopefully any issues have now been fixed, but head on down to the forums or shout on the comments below and let us know how it's working for you guys. Microsoft unveils Xbox SmartGlass, "second screen" functionality heading to Android

Android Central

Our buddies over at WPCentral are out in LA right now enjoying the Xbox keynote presentation at E3. Microsoft presentations wouldn't really interest us much, but surprisingly there was a specific mention of Android. It seems the newly unveiled Xbox SmartGlass feature will be compatible with Android.

It offers an Airplay-esque functionality, in that videos viewed on a tablet for example can be transferred over to the big screen and picked up where you left off. When viewing on the TV, the tablet then becomes a second screen, displaying additional content. An example shown off was with popular series Game Of Thrones, where the tablet became a map tracking all the on screen action.

The keynote has just finished, so we'll be looking forward to further coverage on this from the guys over at WPCentral.

Line Grapefruit is a tricky Flash "path" game

linegrapefruit
Okay, see that snaking line coming in from the right on the screenshot? That's you. And see those large round circles? Those are supposedly grapefruits, only they won't sit still - they keep moving up and down and cutting across your path. And if you touch one, you die!

That's what you have to deal with in Line Grapefruit. But that's not all - you're also on a time limit. In fact, you have a very limited amount of time to make it through the "path" (for lack of a better word). You need to snake your way through the winding trail without touching anything. The good news is that a grapefruit only kills you if it touches the end of the line - once you've made it past the grapefruit, nothing happens if it crosses the path you've made.

This is not an easy game, but it's quite unique - I can't recall seeing another game quite like it.

Apple lords over tab market in Q1 2012, Samsung bumps Kindle in scuffle for scraps

apple-tab-market-in-q1-2012-samsung-bumps-kindle

If it's the end of a financial quarter, there must be another chronicle of the iPad swelling Apple's money pile and its tablet competitors trying in vain to chip off more for themselves. And with 11.8 million shipped by Cupertino out of 18.2 million slates total, that's pretty much the case -- with a minor shuffle of those "other guys" the only other tidbit. To wit, Amazon's Kindle petered into third spot only a quarter after trumpeting its ascension to number two, and Samsung displaced it as distant runner-up with sales of 1.1 million tabs. The most wide-eyed in the Korean maker's camp might point to Apple being topped in the rate of 3G / 4G tablets sold, but with eight times the sales of WiFi models, we doubt Apple's number-crunchers are losing any sleep over it. Per usual, the full report can be seen in the source link.

Sony T Series Ultrabook hands-on (video)

Sony T Series Ultrabook hands-on (video)

Sony just announced US availability for its T Series Ultrabook, and though we'll only get the T13 and not the T11 stateside, this version will ship with third-gen Intel CPUs rather than the European model's Sandy Bridge processors. Here's the Cliff Notes version if you missed the earlier announcement: the 13-incher weighs 3.5 pounds (admittedly a little hefty for an Ultrabook), but its chassis is just 0.71 inches thin. Moreover, the T13 starts at $800, which is pretty dang low in the larger scheme of Ultrabook pricing. We went hands-on with the T13 at the Sony Center this morning -- head past the break for a closer look at Sony's first Ultrabook.

Sensor-Filled Umbrella Turns Raindrops Into a Retro 8-Bit Soundtrack [Video]

Nintendo may have long since abandoned the Game Boy platform, but it hasn't stopped artists with a passion for retro 8-bit sounds from using it to still create music. Like Alice Zappe, whose love of Game Boy chiptunes also inspired her to create this umbrella that turns rain drops into bleeps and bloops. More »

Huawei Ascend P1 review

Huawei Ascend P1

Thin, fast, and light, Huawei is poised to make waves with the Ascend P1 -- but is it enough to gain a foothold in new markets?

Huawei is certainly a bit of an anomaly to me. They're huge in some markets but struggle in others (like the States), because the hardware they've released here has always been less-than-stellar. Then they go and release a phone like the Ascend P1 and turn my whole notion of them on its head.

To parrot what was said about the Epic 4G Touch, the Huawei Ascend P1 could simply simply be described as thin, fast, and light. (As a matter of fact, the P1 S is supposed to be the thinnest smartphone around.) With a pentaband radio inside, you'll be chatting and surfing the 'net the whole world over.

I can't give all the good stuff away so early, though! Is Huawei's latest entry into the high-end smartphone market enough to propel them into the markets they're after? Let's take a look after the break.
