Motorola show off a host of videos detailing the RAZR ICS update

Android Central

Just over a week ago now, we saw Motorola's updated Ice Cream Sandwich update schedule. Of those devices, the RAZR was listed as receiving the update across the world beginning in Q2. Now we get a pretty detailed glimpse at what to expect, with a whole stack of promotional videos released by Moto on their Japanese site.

First impressions are pretty good. Motorola have been criticized over the years for their overpowering Blur software, but this looks a lot different. While not stock ICS, it isn't too far away. Right from the lockscreen, through the homescreen and into the app drawer, on appearance alone this is definitely ICS.

Also worth a mention is the Webtop 3.0 interface. It looks an awful lot like an ICS tablet interface. Which is a good thing.  You'll find some of the videos after the break, with more available at the source link below. Some of them are in Japanese (as is the source page), but some of them are in English.

Dodge is a space-shooter in which you have no weapons

dodge
Space-shooters are usually a fairly fiery affair, with many types of guns, weapon upgrades, power-ups and more. Dodge does away with all of that, while keeping the very essence of a space shooter: Dark background, fast action, and stuff blowing up all over the place.

Your vector-looking spacecraft is the fastest thing on the screen, most of the time. And as the header implies, you have absolutely no weapons; you can't get any, either. All you have is agility and maneuverability.

Your opponents shoot heat-seeking missiles at you; the missiles lock on and start tracking you. The trick is to dodge the missiles while putting them in the path of one of your enemies, thus letting them have a taste of their own medicine.

There are three types of enemies, at least in the first few levels: "simple" spaceships which fire slow projectiles, "tanks" which seem to be more serious and take more hits to destroy, and "circles." The circles simply explode, spewing twenty or thirty very fast projectiles. This sounds dangerous, but is actually great once you learn to use them; they are very destructive for tanks, and can even blow up other circles.

The soundtrack is very techno, but it meshes very well with this type of game. Intense fun!

Windows 8 wallpaper available to download, Jupiter and Twin UI spotted

windows 8 wallpaper
With Windows 8 milestone 3 now up for grabs for select Microsoft Connect partners, it's inevitable that leaked bits and pieces will start popping up around the Web. In fact, the first "official" wallpaper image from the still-brewing OS is already making the rounds.

As you can see, it's got a similar feel to the good ol' Windows 7 default background, but features a more subdued smattering of cerulean hues. Those of you who want to use the Windows 8 wallpaper on your current desktop can download it from our file dump.

A few other details have been revealed, too. According to ZDNet's source, the Windows 8 Jupiter libraries and Twin UI are starting to take shape -- though all that's been located thus far are "[various files] scattered throughout the OS" and the aptly-named twinui.dll.

Google Wallet: one year later

Google Wallet: one year later

The rumors and leaks go back a bit further, but it was a year ago today that Google officially revealed its Google Wallet mobile payment service -- a platform that the company is still betting big on, even if it may be slightly reconsidering the way it does business. While it might not have taken off quite as quickly as Google would have liked, the past year has still been a fairly eventful one for the service -- albeit occasionally for reasons the company would prefer you forget -- and the next year proves to be even more challenging as the service faces increased competition. Read on for a look back at how we got here, and what lies ahead for both Google Wallet and mobile payments in general.

Backstage at Disrupt, Greylock?s John Lilly on Building Apps for Phones vs Tablets

Screen shot 2012-05-25 at 11.34.17 AMIf you're building apps for phones or tablets, here's a must-see discussion for you. We were able to corral Greylock's John Lilly (who recently helped lead an investment in Instagram, right before it was acquired) backstage at Disrupt NYC earlier this week for a more casual conversation about the mobile app ecosystem and hardware. In this short talk, Lilly shared his views about the similarities and differences of building applications for mobile devices, taking care to point out that he sees many great entrepreneurs approaching the phone in a similar manner to how they approach the tablet. While the operating systems are similar on iPhone and other iOS devices (like iPad), for instance, the use cases, usage by time of day, and monetization opportunities are entirely different. Lilly encourages entrepreneurs to ask how to get their ideas on the homescreens of users' phones and tablets.

Digital Chocolate Downsizing? Founder Trip Hawkins Out As CEO; Reports Of Layoffs, Marc Metis As Interim CEO

Digital ChocolateSome significant changes afoot at social and mobile games company Digital Chocolate: founder Trip Hawkins has stepped down as the CEO of the company. And we have also heard a report -- yet to be confirmed directly by the company -- that president Marc Metis has stepped up as interim CEO; and that Digital Chocolate has laid off up to 180 people across offices in India, San Mateo, Russia and elsewhere. Hawkins' news was made public by Trip himself in his company blog, where he notes that he is "transitioning into a consulting and advisory relationship with Digital Chocolate." Without giving away much about the state of affairs at the company, the move, he writes, is being made as the company  is "narrowing its focus." "It made sense to get more streamlined," he explains. Hawkins founded the company eight years ago.
