The Standeazy smart phone stands work with most every smart phone on the market now.  They’re made of polypropylene, and they are about the size of a credit card.  They fold up and store in your wallet when you don’t need them, and they’ll open into a stand that can support your phone in either [...]

Wolfram Alpha now does literary analysis, breaks down the Bard's work

Wolfram Alpha now does literary analysis, breaks down the Bard's work
Literary geeks rejoice! Wolfram Alpha has given you the tools to examine the works of William Shakespeare in ways you've never cared to imagined. Ever wondered how many words are in the second act of Othello? Or what the longest word is in A Midsummer Night's Dream? The answers to such (largely unasked) queries are now mere keystrokes away, and not just for the Bard's writings, either. That's right, folks, computational analysis of the works from such luminaries as Melville, Dickens, and Twain are on tap, too. The folks at Wolfram Alpha are also looking to increase the number of supported titles, so head on down to the source link and let them know which ones you want to see.

Security Hole Spotted In Facebook Android SDK, Long Tail Apps May Still Be Unpatched

facebook-securityMobile app platform provider Parse is reporting having discovered a major security hole in the Facebook Android SDK. The problem was quickly patched after being reported to Facebook, but that alone may not be enough to secure affected mobile applications, the company says. The security vulnerability affected all apps using the Facebook Android SDK, including major apps like Foursquare, and there's no way for end users to know which app developers, outside the big ones, have implemented the fixes needed to secure users' data. (Except for Foursquare, which we know to be patched - whew!)

Help Bob make money in Sticks, a fun physics game

sticks
Sticks is another one of those rare games where the intro is actually worth watching. It introduces you to office worker Bob, who is basically a wage slave fantasizing about a better existence.

Then, on his way back home from another grueling day at the office, he passes a huge sign which says "Sticks." This is where the game starts.

Each level has a number of coins hovering in mid-air, and your goal is to place sticks that lead those coins to Bob -- but you only have a limited amount of wood to play with. As soon as you're done placing your sticks strategically, hit the big Play button and let nature, or rather gravity, run its course. The coins will drop down, and if you place your sticks correctly, they will roll all the way to Bob.

The soundtrack is soothing and playful, and didn't get on my nerves even after playing for quite a while. All in all, a very cute game, especially for a day at the office.

O'Reilly helps Japan, offers entire e-book catalog for 50% off, today only

O'reilly make some of the best computer books in the world. They also sell them as DRM-free e-books in a bunch of formats, including PDFs and Mobi for Kindle.

They usually offer one "Deal of the Day", which is a 50% discount code for a book chosen for that one day. But just for for today, they've created a discount code -- DDJPN -- that gives you a 50% discount on their entire catalog, and they give a part of the proceeds to aid Japan relief efforts.

So far they've raised over $60,000, and the day is still young. So if you've been recently hankering after some nerdy book (or three), now would be a great time to grab one.

Hunters 2 is a relatively new game for iPhone which corners a very specific (but hardcore) niche. It's a turn-based tactical combat game where you tailor futuristic mercenaries with your choice of skills and gear of the course of several harrowing missions.

Samsung's WiFi-equipped NX20 camera gets FCC mugshot

Samsung's WiFi-equipped NX20 camera gets FCC mugshot
Pretty, isn't it? You're looking at a regulatory block diagram of the NX20, which is still unannounced but is probably the successor to Sammy's NX11 mirrorless camera. We're not totally sure how it'll fit into the manufacturer's line-up, but an earlier leak pointed to an APS-C sensor akin to the NX200's, plus a 20.3-megapixel resolution, 12,800 ISO, and built-in WiFi -- that last spec being about the only thing we're able to confirm from the FCC test report.
