No One Wants To Shop From an Interactive Music Video [Wtf]

Canadian retailer SSSense has developed a shoppable music video in hopes that watching cool people flaunt couture will inspire you to impulse buy a bunch of crap you don't want and can't afford. The song is not terrible! But the shopping experience is noisy and totally ruins the video. Nobody who likes music actually wants this. Can we please make it go away? More »

These Are Objectively the Worst ATMs in the World [WTFriday]

These ATMs would be perfect if the world was filled with giant oafs and little imps but uh, it's not. That's why they're so completely horrible—normal people can't reach one ATM because it's too high while they have to go down to their knees to use the other. More »

Gillmor Gang: Lawyers, Puns, and Monkeys

Gillmor Gang test patternThe Gillmor Gang ? Danny Sullivan, Robert Scoble, John Taschek, Kevin Marks, and Steve Gillmor ? proved unequal to the task of rendering the week's non-news into insight. Whether it was @scobleizer and Sergey Brin circling the famous Google Glasses or @dannysullivan grading Larry Page's book report, nothing was revealed. No monkeys were harmed in the making of this film. They weren't helped much either

Tweetbot for iOS updated with iCloud syncing of timelines and more across devices

Tweetbot for iOS updated with iCloud syncing of timelines and more across devices
Nearly a year after it debuted and caught our eye as an incredibly well structured Twitter client for the iPhone, Tweetbot's latest revision uses Apple's cloud servers to sync the experience instead of just content. Version 2.2's iCloud based syncing of account settings, timeline position, DMs and Mute filters lets those deep in the iLife go from iPhone to iPad or vice versa without missing a beat. The only possible fly in the ointment? The tablet and phone version are still separate apps that cost $2.99 each, but satisfied customers who have already ponied up can start enjoying their seamless transitions as soon as they've updated.

TextSpresso machine brews caffeinated goodness via text messaging (video)

TextSpresso machine lets geeks remotely brew caffeinated goodness via text messages (video)
The folks at Zipwhip may have unwittingly discovered a new business model. While the company is primarily focused on cloud messaging services, it's recently created an espresso maker that allows employees to whip up custom brews from the comfort of their mobile phone. Known as TextSpresso, it's based on the Jura Impressa XS90, but unlike the retail model, the machine accepts orders via SMS. As if that weren't enough, it's part of a larger system that's capable of printing employee names onto the foam (using edible ink) and then placing the drink onto a warming tray. TextSpresso is very much a custom job, but if you'd like an inside peek of the system -- complete with servo motors, an Arduino microcontroller and a retro-fitted Canon printer -- be sure to hop the break and dream of what could be.

Install the Windows Phone 7 NoDo update regardless of your carrier

windows phone 7 nodoSome of you who own Windows Phone 7 devices are still waiting for your pre-NoDo preparation update -- never mind NoDo itself. A few workarounds have been posted, but unfortunately they didn't work unless your carrier had completed testing and was ready to schedule the update.

Now, however, the Chevron WP7 team's Chris Walshie has delivered a handy little utility that will allow you to update any Windows Phone 7 device -- regardless of your carrier.

  1. Download and install the Windows Phone Support Tool (x86 or x64) and the ChevronWP7 Updater (x86 or x64)
  2. Launch ChevronWP7 Updater and select your language. If your language isn't listed, stop and do not update.
  3. If were running WP7 build 7004 (you can verify in Zune) then run the updater twice.
Once the process completes, you should be able to copy and paste to your heart's content. Let's just hope all this update foolishness gets sorted out before we're supposed to receive Mango.

Mac OS X Lion Preview 2 released, introduces mega exciting leather bound iCal skin

This is one of those posts that could probably be condensed into a tweet: Apple has released the second Preview of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. If you're running Preview 1, it looks like you'll first receive a small update via Software Update, and then you can download Preview 2 from the Mac App Store.

There has been some speculation that Apple is getting close to a release or Golden Master build, but judging by 9to5 Mac's initial findings there's definitely some way to go. The Golden Master will probably appear at, or just before, the Apple WWDC in June.

So far, it's looking like the only changes in Preview 2 are the leather bound iCal skin that you can see above, and the main iChat window now combines your AIM, Bonjour and Jabber contacts, like Adium. We're sure that more details will emerge throughout the day, though, and there's bound to be lots of invisible changes, too. We'll update this post when we find out more.

One of the EVO 4G LTE's most important features may be one you hate the most

HTC EVO 4G LTE

I worry about my HTC One X. I live in fear that I will render its camera -- one of the more important parts of the phone -- useless by scratching the camera lens to no end. On the One X, which is made up of just a single piece of polycarbonate, there's no easy way to replace the lens cover. That's not the case with the EVO 4G LTE. The lens cover is a part of the removable cover.

And that's a bit ironic, don'tcha think? The part that is the subject of much controversy (some folks are little upset over the design) could well be the phone's savoir. The camera on the HTC One series -- as well as the HTC EVO 4G LTE -- is one of its most important features. If you're looking for another way the E4GLTE might best the excellent HTC One X, here it is.

Google's Blogger platform adds five new HTML5 Dynamic Views

Google Blogger Mosaic Dynamic View
Google, as part of its ongoing and much-needed overhaul of its popular Blogger platform, has just enabled five dynamic, HTML5ish, AJAXy 'Dynamic Views'. There's a video introducing the new layouts after the break.

The five new views provide fresh and interesting ways to explore your favorite Blogger blogs. The Mosaic view, for example, creates a wall of thumbnails -- click one, and it zooms to fill the screen; click it again and it minimizes. Flipcard is similar to Mosaic, but not quite as eclectic. Sidebar, Timeslide and Snapshot round off the new views, with each one obviously targeted at different types of content, from photo blogs, to text-only philosophy blogs, and everything in between.

For now, you have to visit a Blogger blog and add /view to the URL to enable the new Dynamic Views. If you own a Blogger blog, you can disable the new views -- and really, why weren't they disabled by default?

If feedback is positive -- which we're sure it will be -- these Dynamic Views will soon be enabled by default. You'll also be able to edit the views in much the same way as current Blogger templates.
