The Nerdier Version of Peeing in the Snow [Science]

Leave it to a bunch of geniuses to waste a good opportunity. Remember how Samuel Morse famously asked, "What hath God wrought?" with the first telegram? Well this week, a group of scientists at the University of Rochester sent the first-ever message using a beam of neutrinos, and spelled out: "neutrinos." More »

DropSpace adds real Dropbox sync to Android

dropspace
Dropbox offers a lovely client for Android, but it's lacking true "sync" functionality. You can merely browse your Dropbox, pull files into the device, and manually upload specific files.

DropSpace is a little Android app that makes Dropbox on Android work like Dropbox - that is, you get real folder synchronization in the background.

When you run the app you're prompted for your Dropbox credentials. After logging in to Dropbox, you get to select which device folders you'd like to sync to the cloud. It's a straightforward mapping process: You select a folder on the device, and then specify where in Dropbox it should go.

The interface is rather clunky, at least for now. The biggest annoyance is that you can't edit your "sync list": if you add a folder and then wish to remove it, you must delete the entire list of folders and start over.

In terms of functionality, it works quite well. I tested it with the camera folder, and it was nice to be able to take my photos using the lean default Camera app and have them sync up to the cloud instantly.

Kensington KeyLite Ultra Slim Touch Keyboard Folio Review

The one thing I dislike about using my iPad is the on-screen keyboard, and it seems many people agree with me – evidenced by the sheer number of Bluetooth keyboards and keyboard cases on the iPad accessories market.  Typing a quick email on an iPad is fine, but typing anything longer is slow and error-filled.  [...]

Nokia design chief spending a third of his time on future tablet

Nokia design chief Marko Ahtisaari wasn't going to be drawn on details and release dates, but he has revealed that a tablet from the (predominantly) phone-focused company was definitely in the works -- and taking up a fair chunk of his time. In an interview with Finnish magazine Kauppalehti Optio, Ahtisaari said that he was looking to create a new device that would stand out from the increasingly packed tablet crowd. The full interview isn't online just yet, but the teaser adds that the head of design is also involved in a new 'revolutionary' user experience that means you wouldn't have to be constantly arched over your phone -- whatever that involves. A Nokia spokesperson told Reuters that they "continue to eye the tablet space with interest, but have made no specific announcements." However, we're sure Nokia will have plenty more to say about these nebulous ideas in the near future.

HSPA BlackBerry PlayBook hits the FCC (update: LTE too)

RIM has been promising an HSPA+ capable BlackBerry PlayBook for over a year, and it looks like it's now one step closer to actually being released. A tablet from Research in Motion recently made its way through the FCC's approval process and, if the test reports are any indication, it's a tablet with built-in HSPA+ connectivity. Unfortunately, the FCC hasn't revealed much else just yet, but earlier rumors have suggested that the new tablet will also see speed bump of another sort: an upgrade to a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, as well as the addition of NFC. A leaked RIM roadmap that surfaced earlier this year also suggested that the tablet would be released in mid-2012.

Update: And just like that, an LTE version has now also turned up on the FCC's site, operating on frequencies that could indicate support for either AT&T in the US or any of the big three carriers in Canada.

Update 2: Now a second LTE version has turned up at the FCC, this one with support for Verizon's network.
