Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 rolls through the FCC packing Verizon-friendly LTE

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 7.7 is certainly no stranger to the good people at the FCC, as both WiFi and HSPA+ versions have already run the Commission's gauntlet of radiation tests. The third time's the charm for Verizon customers, however, because a new model dubbed SCH-i815 has made its way to the FCC bearing CDMA and LTE radios built to surf Big Red's network. So, it looks like the Galaxy Tab 7.7 will be making its way to American store shelves sometime soon. The question is, did Sammy have to beef up the Tab's profile to cram in the LTE gear like its Nexus cousin?

App-ocalypse

apps_iosThere are over 500,000 applications for the iPhone and iPad, 300,000+ on Android and thousands more on other platforms. The average user has 65 apps installed on their phone (source: Flurry). Many of us have more. Entire businesses have been built to solve the problem of ?app discovery? ? that is, a way to supplement the limited app search mechanisms built into the vendors? own application stores. This is primarily to benefit mobile app developers, who can?t get their apps found. The end results of these products are pitched to consumers as tools to ?find new, cool apps,? ?find apps your friends like,? or ?find the best apps that do X.? While these efforts are appreciated by app developers and end users alike, they don?t solve what is increasingly becoming a real problem: finding the apps you already have installed on your phone.

DSLR Remote HD Review

Everybody is excited by OnOne?s DSLR Remote HD launch as an iPad App. What was previously available only for the Iphone and Ipod Touch is now with the iPad as well. The most obvious advantage for this app is that with the iPad?s generous screen area, the program is no longer just a fancy remote controller but also something that can really be useful for certain applications. But what exactly is the DSLR Remote HD and how does it stack [...]

PS Vita gets first public unboxing treatment, leaves nothing to the imagination (video)

Sure, we've shown you a hands-on, but we know your brain's been working hard imagining what it's like to unwrap Sony's next-gen handheld. The PS Vita could easily be considered one of the -- if not the biggest -- teases of the gadgetverse; since it was first unveiled, it's only had time for a smattering of cameos. Regardless, no one is questioning the Vita's determination to be in as many wish lists as possible by its eventual 2012 release. Folks who tend to enjoy teasers can find precisely that just after the break.

Personal Activity Monitor tracks time you spend using desktop apps

personalactivitymonitor
Up until a couple of years ago, I used to turn to RescueTime to figure out how I spend my time online. Then it got too complex, and I stopped using it. Personal Activity Monitor is like a vastly dumbed-down version of RescueTime, and I mean that as a compliment. It's free and bare-bones -- all it does is track what applications you're using and for how long.

A big drawback at this point is that it doesn't integrate with Web browsers to help you analyze how you spend your time on the Web. Still, if your work doesn't require constant Web app use, knowing how long you've used a browser overall might be enough to help you manage your time.

This is far from the only application in this space -- alternatives such as Slife and Chrometa are full-featured and impressive -- but PAM is good option for those who want a nice, simple tracker.

Auto Updates Nudge IE Users Into the Present

Microsoft will automatically upgrade earlier versions of its Internet Explorer browser beginning in January. The updates will be for PCs running Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, Redmond said. Users in Australia and Brazil who have turned on the automatic update feature in Windows Update will be the first to have their browsers automatically updated, and Microsoft will roll out this capability elsewhere over time.

As is usually the case with Microsoft peripherals, the 5000 looks [...]
